EMDR Therapy in Ventura, CA
Understanding. Processing. Moving Forward.
Therapy isn't about erasing what happened. It's about helping you heal from it—so you can move forward with more freedom and peace. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in Ventura trained in EMDR, I'd be honored to walk that path with you.
What Is EMDR Therapy?
Here's the idea behind it: when something overwhelming happens, our brain doesn't always finish processing it the way it processes an ordinary memory. Instead, that experience can get "stuck"—stored with all the original emotions, sensations, and beliefs still attached. That's why a memory from years ago can still make your heart race, or why an old experience can quietly shape how you see yourself today.
EMDR helps your brain do what it naturally wants to do: heal. Using gentle, guided bilateral stimulation—often side-to-side eye movements, taps, or tones—we help your mind reprocess those stuck experiences. Over time, the memory loses its charge. It becomes something that happened to you, rather than something that still controls you.

Common Questions
No. Unlike some talk therapies, EMDR doesn't require you to describe your experiences in detail or relive them fully. Much of the healing happens internally, as your brain reprocesses the memory — which many people find is a gentler way to work through painful experiences.
It varies from person to person. Some people notice meaningful shifts within a few months, while others do deeper, longer-term work. We'll talk about what feels right for you and revisit it together as we go.
EMDR is a well-established, extensively researched approach, and we move at a pace that keeps you feeling safe throughout. Before we process anything difficult, we make sure you have grounding tools in place. You stay in control the entire time.
